Adelaide ( Adelaide River) - Navigable river in Australia,flowing through the Northern Territory the country and empties into the Timor Sea about 50 km north-east of the city Darwin.
Formed from the merger of the two rivers. At Adelaide River is a small town of Adelaide River.
Adelaide River was opened by John Lortie Stokes ( John Lort Stokes) and A. P. Ficmorisom (L.R. Fitzmaurice) in 1839 year during the study of the Northern Territory coast in the ship «Beagle».
People named the river in honor of Queen Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen,wife of British King William IV. Subsequently, the river was explored by John McDowell Stuart ( John McDouall Stuart) in 1862 Year.
